The Overview Guide starts with how to prepare for your first session with parents and carers. It also shows you how to gather, track and measure impact, which is an important part of the Family Voices Toolkit and can be integrated into your social value or ESG frameworks.

Preparation

Inviting parents and carers of very young children to engagement sessions can be a challenge. Timings and access to childcare are a barrier and unless we make it very easy, parents and carers will find it a challenge to engage as easily as other groups.

The Overview Guide will talk you through how to plan for a first session, so that it is as inviting as possible and as easy as possible for parents and carers to attend, including with their children if they choose. The guide includes info on how to use the toolkit, who to engage, how to find and look after participants, venues, and how to introduce your first session.

Measuring Impact

Impact is at the heart of the Family Voices Toolkit. The Overview Guide shows you how to Gather, Track and Measure Impact which can be integrated into your social value or ESG frameworks.

Gather

Use engagement sessions and other methods to gather quantitative and qualitative data from participants, the project team and other stakeholders.

Track

Track information which you have gathered regularly so that you can develop an understanding of progress and identify changes that could be made to increase impact.

Measure

Use the information that you have gathered throughout the project to measure the impact that the engagement process is having on your project.

Feedback is gathered from participants and members of the project team and will help you understand how you can make improvements to future sessions and other projects you are working on.

Whichever session you choose to run first, you should use the first session feedback form. Choose the final session feedback form at your final session. Don’t forget to capture feedback from your project team as well, for this use the project team feedback form.

There is also a proposals feedback form that is used if you run a session to look at design proposals. You can download each of the feedback sheets below:
